Trials produces patience

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the test of your faith produces patience.

James 1:2-3

The bible quote confirmed that we will encounter troubles, it does not say “if we encounter trials” but “when we encounter trials”. This bible quote also brings to mind how God works when we encounter troubles. He doesn’t take the trials away, instead he gives us a lion to face so we can fight a dragon. But it needs to be said that we do not fight these battles alone, we have God on our side, our lord who holds the world in his hand. We can not overcome big trials by our own power; it is only by the grace of God that we overcome them. It is hard to comprehend at least for me when I come into trouble why God can not simply fix the problem. I hope God will miraculously solve my problems yet this is not common. In fact I find it quite rare for God to use miracles to solve our problems to the extent that I sometimes doubt the existence of miracles. It is also said in the bible that God will not allow us to be tempted beyond our ability (1 Corinthians 10:13) and it does not say that God will take all the temptation away from us or all our problems. It is only our sins Jesus took upon himself on the cross, not our trials. But we humans have a sinful nature due to the fall, we live in a fallen world. This means that sometimes we will sin even if God does not let us be tempted beyond our capability and so we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).

Are you going through any trials right now?

ps Obviously the icon isn’t made by me, it’s a picture from the local church, the picture is taken by me. The text on the icon reads “Don’t be worried, don’t lose faith”
