Rejoice and Pray

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Life is hell? Pray about it. Life is good? Pray and thank God for it. You are faced with a problem? Pray about it. Do you feel lost and afraid? Pray about it. In everything you do, pray about it so you grow closer to God and so that God who hears all prayers will help you. Christians are also called to pray continuously that is to be in constant conversation with God. That is, God is always to be on our minds. Now I am by no means an expert on prayer if such a person exists but it is an important part of the Christian life. We are called to pray continuously. That is not to say that we will receive everything that we pray for. God, who knows us better than we know ourselves, will give us what we need, not what we say we need. God will provide everything we need and it says that we should not worry about it for we will not with our worry add a single hour to our lifetime (Matthew 6:27). You might say that “but in the bible it says ask and you shall receive” you would be right as it says this in Luke 11:9 yet in this passage they are talking about the holy spirit. That if you ask for the holy spirit you will receive it. The holy spirit is part of God and resides inside every believer.

Prayer is a tool, we pray over our worries and fears but it is also important to pray over what we are thankful for. Pray at least as much for what you are thankful for as for what you need help with as this will help you appreciate what you have rather than ache for what you do not have. It is also good to pray for forgiveness and reflect on our sins as when we do so we will realize how imperfect we are and how much we require salvation through the cross. Prayer is important for ourselves, that we have someone to take our sins and vent. What we spend our time on reflects how important it is in our life and I am sure at least for me that if I prayed as much as I was on my phone I would be a lot happier.

The bible also calls us to rejoice always. To rejoice even in the midst of trials for God is always good and there are always things to be thankful for even in our darkest hour. For we have all received grace from God and forgiveness for our sins.

Has God ever answered your prayer?
