Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel.

It is not literally 144 000 people saved but the number represents a lot of believers. The number 144 000 comes from 12x12x10x10x10. Where the number 12 represents the 12 tribes of Israel and the 12 apostles. The number 10 represents a big number. So 12×12 represents the believers and 10x10x10 a really big number.
Reflection
Since we are so many Christians in the world today 2,2 billion according to Pew research center. Since we are so many I think its good that 144 000 is not the limit.
